Castle Diorama

Elastolin Castle and Figures

For something different, I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on for about a year-and-a half.

The diorama sits on a table I built out of plywood and 2×4.  For a little automation effect, I built a turntable for the mounted knights to “ride around.”  A motor from a rotisserie rotates the turntable. See last pic below for more detail – and click the link for:

The castle and the figures are manufactured by the German company, O&M Hausser (O&M Haußer).  I got them as a kid when living in Germany in the early 1980’s

The background is hand painted (oil on plywood) as well as the town and cathedral (oil on canvas).  I based the cathedral on the Bamberger Dom St. Peter und St. Georg, in Bamberg, Germany.  For the landscape, my daughter and I used Woodland Scenics plaster sheets (super easy to use).
